WANA Expands Reforestation Efforts with Gaia Nature Conservation in Xuan Lien Forest. WANA planted 450 trees at the Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve. Now, we continue our collaboration with Gaia Nature Conservation by planting 2,000 trees to restore the Xuan Lien Forest in Thanh Hoa province.
The Current State of Xuan Lien Forest, Thanh Hoa
The Xuan Lien Nature Reserve in Thanh Hoa province serves as a critical headwater forest. It regulates water and protects millions of people in Thanh Hoa and neighboring regions. The name “Xuan Lien” evokes an image of an ever-flourishing spring in a rich, biodiverse
mountain landscape, where countless species live in harmony.
However, more than 300 hectares of Xuan Lien’s forest remain degraded and urgently ne
ed restoration. Local residents once used this area for slash-and-burn agriculture before returning it to the reserve for rehabilitation. Although the Xuan Lien Museum displays hundreds of rare specimens, the surrounding forest stays eerily quiet, with little wildlife to be heard.
WANA’s Commitment to Restoring Xuan Lien’s Degraded Forest
As a leading producer and exporter of beverages, WANA actively reduces the environmental impact of our operations and contributes positively to Vietnam’s environment. We align our efforts with the Vietnamese government’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2025. We also reduce waste, limit chemical use, and support reforestation.
In 2023, we planted 450 rare tree species in the Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve. These trees enriched the local flora, created habitats for diverse wildlife, and provided food and shelter for species like squirrels, civets, and monkeys.
Building on this success, we are increasing our efforts in 2024 by planting 2,000 trees. We reaffirm our strong commitment to Vietnam’s environment. The dedicated staff at Xuan Lien Forest and the local community will carefully plant, nurture, and monitor these trees.
Mike Nguyen, CEO of WANA Beverage, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “At WANA, we believe that sustainable business practices go hand in hand with environmental stewardship. Our efforts to restore the Xuan Lien Forest reflect our commitment not just to our customers, but also to future generations. We proudly partner with Gaia Nature Conservation in this vital work, and we look forward to seeing these 2,000 trees grow and thrive, contributing to the resilience of Vietnam’s natural landscapes.”
We expect these 2,000 trees to thrive. Over the next 5, 10, or 15 years, they will stand tall, contributing to a greener Xuan Lien Forest and a more sustainable Vietnam.
